Our
Story

It started with my Dad.

Catalyst 4 Connections grew out of my experience caring for my dad, Tom Brown, as he lived with Alzheimer's disease. But Alzheimer's was only one small part of who he was.

My Dad played professional baseball for the Washington Senators before joining the Green Bay Packers, where he played in the first two Super Bowls and earned three championship rings. He then spent decades coaching and mentoring young athletes. He was a competitor, a coach, a father, and a friend. As his memory changed, none of those things stopped being true.

While caring for my Dad, I saw how easily the person could get lost behind the diagnosis. Families knew the stories, preferences, routines, and little things that helped their loved one feel comfortable and connected. Communities often collected that information too, but it was frequently buried in a binder or paperwork instead of being available to the person walking through the door.

"I kept thinking: What if a care partner could know something meaningful about my Dad before they ever met him?"

Because knowing that someone coached young kids, grew up in Maryland, loves sports, or that holding their hand helps them feel calmer can completely change the way an interaction begins.

That idea also connected deeply with my professional life. For more than 20 years, I have worked in special education, first as a classroom teacher and now as a technology specialist. My career has centered on adapting environments, communication, instruction, and technology around the individual. Both experiences taught me the same lesson: you cannot truly support someone until you understand the person in front of you.

That belief became Catalyst 4 Connections. C4C takes the meaningful information families and care communities already know and turns it into practical tools that help care partners connect: visual infographics, personalized videos, quick-reference information, and individualized engagement.

The technology has grown, but the reason behind it hasn't changed. I wanted the people caring for my dad to have the chance to know Tom. Now, I want every family to be able to give care partners that same opportunity.
